Dr. Nelson graduated with Honors from Vassar College. She received her Masters and Doctoral Degrees in Clinical Psychology from Drexel University with a concentration in Health Psychology. She completed her Internship in Clinical Psychology at the University of N. Carolina School of Medicine before completing a Postdoctoral Residency in Primary Care Behavioral Health at the Bedford VA Medical Center. Dr. Nelson also completed the Certificate Program in Primary Care Behavioral Health at UMASS Medical Center.
Dr. Nelson provides assessment and treatment for a broad range of mental health problems including depression and anxiety, as well as various interpersonal difficulties. She also has expertise addressing psychological, behavioral and emotional aspects of medical conditions and health-related behavior such as difficulty coping with illness, injury, or medical procedures, sleep disorders, weight-loss and weight management, diabetes, headaches and other and other chronic pain conditions, and other stress related physical conditions.
Dr. Nelson also has expertise in women’s health and development. She frequently works individuals and couples struggling with infertility, pregnancy loss, post-partum adjustment and depression, adjustment to menopause, sexual dysfunction and other issues specific to women’s development and functioning.
Dr. Nelson’s clinical approaches incorporate cognitive-behavioral therapy (CBT), and mindfulness-acceptance-based therapies (ACT) to improve problem-solving, goal-setting, health management, and overall quality of life.
Dr. Nelson will be available in Weymouth Tuesdays-Fridays. On Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday, she will be available at The Women’s Center of South Shore Medical Center on Performance Drive located off of Libbey Parkway. On Friday, she will available in our Weymouth office on Libbey Parkway.
Dr. Nelson participates in the Blue Cross Blue Shield, Tufts, United Behavioral Health (UBH), Harvard Pilgrim (UBH-Pacificare), Medicare, Beacon Health Strategies, Aetna, Coventry/First Health and Commonwealth Care Alliance. CIGNA and other network plans cover her services on an out of network basis. With the exception of Tufts Health Plan payment for out of network services must be made at the time of service and the client must submit claims directly to the network.
