Dr. Schafer specializes in providing outpatient individual therapy as well as couples therapy for adults with anxiety and depression. Dr. Schafer utilizes a variety of clinical approaches including Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Motivational Interviewing, Exposure Response and Prevention Therapy, Internal Family Systems, Mindfulness, Acceptance and Commitment Therapy and Biofeedback with a client-centered and collaborative focus.
Dr. Schafer received his undergraduate degree in psychology from the University of Wisconsin-Madison, and received his Doctoral Degree in Clinical Psychology from The Chicago School of Professional Psychology. Dr. Schafer completed his APA pre-doctoral training at Associated Talmud Torahs, in which he provided psychological testing for children and adolescents experiencing difficulties in school. Dr. Schafer also completed pre-doctoral training at Sheridan Shore Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, where he provided individual and group therapy for a geriatric population and at Haymarket Substance Abuse Agency, where he provided individual and group therapy for individuals suffering from substance abuse and dual diagnosis. Dr. Schafer completed his pre-doctoral internship at North Central Bronx, where he provided assessment as well as individual and group therapy for individuals in inpatient, partial hospitalization and outpatient settings.
