Helen Shoemaker is a licensed mental health clinician, and has been working in the mental health field since 2014. She earned her Bachelor of Arts degree in psychology through Shippensburg University of Pennsylvania and her Masters of Science degree in Counseling Psychology with a focus on Children and Families through Northeastern University. She has worked in a range of settings, including: in home therapy, therapeutic school placements, school based substance prevention programs, CBAT, and residential settings. Her work has focused on anxiety, parenting support/family therapy, trauma/PTSD, ADHD, adjustment challenges, depression, reactive attachment disorder, disruptive mood dysregulation disorder, as well as other mood related disorders. Her philosophy as a clinician is to help her clients develop an understanding of mental illness and obstacles they have experienced in their lives, while developing more effective strategies to control their emotions and behaviors. She utilizes a strengths based approach, as well as Dialectal Behavioral Therapy, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, and Trauma Focused-Cognitive Behavioral Therapy. She incorporates trauma informed care in all interventions used, such as guided imagery, aroma therapy, mindfulness techniques, holistic approaches, journaling, play elements and Dialectal Behavioral worksheets to help her clients heal and grow.
