Dr. Allen Butler provides evidence-based psychological treatments for children, families and immigrant populations. Her areas of specialty include assisting women and children in navigating systemic challenges that result in anxiety disorders, mood disorders, stress-related disorders (e.g., headache, chronic pain, IBS, insomnia, hypertension), and health-behavior/lifestyle changes. Dr. Allen Butler utilizes a variety of modalities depending on clients' needs, including Feminist therapy, Solution-focused Brief therapy (SFBT), Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy (CBT), stress management/relaxation techniques, Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), mindfulness-based interventions, Narrative therapy, and Motivational Interviewing (MI).
Dr. Allen Butler also has experience providing psychotherapy and treatment planning for children with developmental disorders (e.g., ADHD and Autism Spectrum Disorder), and emotional challenges that can affect personal relationships, work/school, and/or social functioning. In addition to her clinical services, she prides herself on grassroots organizing and speaking against social injustices. Dr. Allen Butler works towards de-stigmatizing mental health through education about psychotherapy while advocating for equality, holistic well-being, and equity in marginalized communities.
After receiving her B.A. in Psychology from Pennsylvania State University, Dr. Allen Butler pursued her doctoral degree in clinical psychology at The Wright Institute, Berkeley, CA. She has completed training with children at elementary schools in MA and CA, worked in private practice and was a predoctoral resident at a community integrated behavioral health clinic. Dr. Allen Butler continued her post-doctoral training at Kaiser Permanente, a medical center in CA, working with children and families.
