Licensed Mental Health Counselor
Provider type: Psychotherapist
Patient Age: Adult, Child & Adolescent
Services Provided: Consultation, Clinical Evaluation, and Psychotherapy
Marissa currently works as a school adjustment counselor and has paired this position with an outpatient counseling position with CFPS. Having a dual role as a school counselor and outpatient therapist has allowed her to understand the needs of children and families in and outside of the school setting. Marissa believes that establishing strong relationships between school and outside practitioners helps to create an environment where services can be wrapped around children and families to provide the utmost level of support.
Within the clinical setting, Marissa believes that successful therapy begins with a strong therapeutic alliance between the client and the clinician. She integrates practices from developmental psychology, cognitive behavioral therapy, and dialectical behavioral therapy into her practice. Marissa also recognizes the importance of meeting a client where he/she is and using strategies that may be most effective and helpful to the individual. Within her sessions with clients, she hopes to create an environment where clients feel safe, supported, and understood. Having a sense of curiosity about and genuine interest in all of the clients with whom Marissa works, creates an environment where growth is fostered and clients can work through challenges that they may be facing.
Marissa received her M.A. in Clinical Mental Health Counseling from Lesley Univeristy in 2013. During her three years at Lesley, she completed internships with The Home for Little Wanderers and The Brookline Public Schools. Marissa graduated with her M.A. as well as her license as a School Adjustment Counselor K-12 from DESE. Marissa holds a full time School Adjustment Counseling position in the Needham Public Schools.
