Dr. Patel uses an individualized approach informed by the best treatment practices available for adults. Several techniques she uses includes a blend of Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Dialetical Behavioral Therapy (DBT), Rational Emotive Therapy (RET), Mindfulness-Based Therapy and Psychodynamic psychotherapy to support and motivate clients to help them move forward. She strongly believes it is important to understand the reasons behind the problems that bring people to therapy which many times are based in the past, and to be able to make real and lasting behavioral changes in the present. She has a flexible approach and expertise in a range of different interventions which enable her to tailor treatment to the unique and complex needs of the client. She works cooperatively with all clients to facilitate the learning of new skills, increased self-understanding, and reconnection with their own sources and resilience. She has extensive experience helping people with a range of presenting issues, from situational stressors to chronic mental illness. Dr. Patel received her doctorate in Clinical Psychology from Alliant International University (formally California School of Professional Psychology). She completed an APA pre-doctoral internship at Westborough State Hospital (Westborough, MA). During this time, her work included providing individual and group therapy to adults with chronic mental illness as well as neuropsychological testing for Adolescents and Adults. Dr. Patel also developed and implemented the Cognitive Rehabilitation Program at Westborough State Hospital. Prior to her doctoral training, she obtained her Master’s Degree in Clinical/Organizational Psychology at New York University. She has worked for nearly a decade as a Psychotherapist in a variety of settings including Private Practice, Hospitals, and Community Mental Health.
