Dr. Abrams has expertise in evidence-based psychological treatment with a particular emphasis on third-wave cognitive and behavioral therapies such as Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Mindfulness-Based Cognitive Therapy and Compassion-Focused Therapy. She prioritizes a collaborative approach to treatment. Her areas of specialty include anxiety disorders, depression, mood disorders, trauma, life-stage adjustment issues as well as infertility and peri-natal mental health. Dr. Abrams graduated cum laude from Williams College with a B.A. in Psychology and was a research associate at Columbia University and the New York State Psychiatric Institute. She received her Ph.D. in Clinical Psychology from Emory University in 1998. Dr. Abrams completed her pre- and post-doctoral fellowships at the Edith Nourse Rogers Memorial Veterans Affairs Medical Center in Bedford, MA where she also served as a staff psychologist and principal in the establishment of the Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) training, research and treatment center. She has been providing consultation and psychotherapy services at PCA since 2002 and is an active member of the Association for Behavioral and Cognitive Therapies and the Massachusetts Psychological Association.
