Dr. Palmeri provides a holistic approach to therapy. Her interventions and treatment primarily draw upon psychodynamic, interpersonal-process, mindfulness-based, and cognitive-behavioral perspectives. Dr. Palmeri emphasizes two components to therapy: processing / insight-oriented techniques and behavioral coping strategies. She has extensive experience working with the young adult population, college students, anxiety, panic attacks, depression, phase of life concerns, transition / adjustment issues, existential concerns, and relationship problems. In addition, she also specializes in conducting ADHD testing / diagnostic evaluations.
Dr. Palmeri has her Ph.D. in counseling psychology from Western Michigan University, a MSEd. in mental health counseling from Fordham University, and a BS in psychology from Binghamton University, State University of NY. Her doctoral dissertation was on chronic pain and its relationship with depression and anxiety. Much of her experience and training has been in university or college counseling centers, having worked at 7 different counseling centers and completing her professional APA-accredited internship at the center for counseling and psychological services at UMass-Amherst. She also completed a post-doctoral fellowship at UMass-Amherst in therapy and psychological testing, primarily focused on ADHD testing. In addition, she has trained at and worked in community outpatient and inpatient / hospital settings, working with adults.
