About Charles L. West, Ph.D.

Dr. Charles West has been a practicing psychologist for more than 35 years. Early in his career he focused on treating individuals along the full range of severity of personal challenges and was a hospital-based clinician during those years. He later acquired substantial experience with international living and working and developed an expertise with assisting foreign nationals with navigating cultural differences and distinguishing culture shock from clinical concerns like anxiety and depression. Dr. West uses a variety of traditional psychotherapeutic methods and mindfulness-informed cognitive behavioral strategies to support and facilitate progress made by clients who range in age from early adulthood through more senior years.

    Dr. West completed his Ph.D. in Counseling Psychology (APA-approved program) from Michigan State University; pre-doctoral internship in clinical psychology at the Massachusetts Mental Health Center in affiliation with Harvard Medical School Department of Psychiatry and a post-doctoral fellowship in clinical psychology at Mt. Auburn Hospital in affiliation with Harvard Medical School Department of Psychiatry. Prior to his doctoral training, Dr. West received a Master’s Degree in Psychiatric Rehabilitation Counseling from the University of Virginia.
