At CFPsych, we offer both psychiatric and psychological services through telehealth. Sometimes, these types of appointments are called telepsychiatry and teletherapy. In both kinds of telehealth appointments, patients get the care they need through secure video conferencing with our expert clinicians.

Are There Benefits to Choosing Telehealth for Mental Health Treatment?

One of the most significant benefits of telehealth for mental health is that many patients find it easier to attend virtual appointments regularly. Regular attendance is vital for positive outcomes in mental health treatment. When people do not have to take extra time off of work, fight traffic both ways, or find child care for appointments, it’s easier to get the care they need.

Telepsychiatry and teletherapy can also help patients broaden their support systems. Providers can use secure video conferencing to speak to patients alongside:

  • Teachers
  • Family
  • Other healthcare providers
  • Friends

This can ensure the person’s whole support system is on the same page, thus improving patient care.

Does Telehealth Work?

Since telehealth emerged as an alternative for in-person mental health services, studies have consistently shown that telehealth is equally effective for patients. Of course, each person is unique and needs something different from their providers. For some patients, telehealth is the only way they can fit mental health services into their lives. Other patients prefer in-office appointments. That’s why we offer both in-person and online visits, so you get the care you need.

What Devices Can I Use for Telehealth Appointments?

In order to attend telehealth appointments, you need a private space in which you feel safe discussing your health. You also need an internet connection and a device that will run our telehealth software. Many types of devices and operating systems can run secure software, including:

  • Mac computers: OS X 10.11 or later
  • Windows computers: Windows 7 or later
  • iPad: Air or newer

Will My Insurance Cover Telehealth Visits?

Most major insurance providers now cover telehealth visits in the same way they would cover a comparable in-office visit. However, this policy is ultimately up to the insurance provider. We accept plans from all major insurance companies and encourage patients to check with their insurance policy providers before scheduling their first telehealth appointments.

Does CFPsych Only Offer Telehealth?

We are proud to offer both in-person and online mental health services. Patients work with our providers to decide whether in-office, telehealth, or a combination of appointment types works best for them.

Is My Information Safe in Telehealth Appointments?

All psychiatry and therapy appointments must meet HIPAA security standards, including telehealth visits. CFPsych uses secure software that encrypts both audio and visual data. We take patient confidentiality seriously and take every precaution to protect your information.
