Joanne provides outpatient psychotherapy to young adults and adults through the life span, utilizing an eclectic holistic approach to various mental health issues. Her areas of expertise are in mental health issues of anxiety, depression, grief and loss, trauma, addiction, and the mental health impact of chronic health issues.
Joanne provides individual, couples and family therapy and uses a therapeutic approach which is strengths based, holistic, with a focus on cognitive behavioral interventions, DBT, mind and body connections, mindfulness based strategies, narrative therapy, and the use of expressive arts. Joanne believes that people have the strength within themselves to heal, but sometimes they need a little help in finding it, especially when faced with difficult life transitions and challenges
Joanne received her undergraduate degree in Social Work from Bridgewater State University and master’s degree in Clinical Social Work from Rhode Island College. Her work and training experiences have included community outreach, child and family mental health services, treating survivors of traumatic brain injury, and counseling adults who struggle with both mental health and addiction issues. She has recently completed her certification in trauma therapy.
In addition to her clinical practice, Joanne is a member of the Brown University, Warren Alpert Medical School teaching community where she instructs medical students in areas of professionalism and various mental health concerns. This teaching experience has added to the holistic approach of her clinical practice; assisting people in bridging the gap between physical and psychological concerns in order to promote overall wellness and healing.
