Dr. Hellmann provides a strengths-based approach to treatment. Her areas of of specialty include anxiety disorders, depression, bipolar disorders, trauma/PTSD, adult ADHD, traumatic brain injury/ cognitive disorders and coping with chronic medical conditions. Dr. Hellmann also has a special interest in health-behavior/lifestyle changes and Functional/Integrative Medicine. Her treatment approach tends to be eclectic but, dependent on client’s needs, it may include elements of Mindfulness-Based Therapies (MBSR, MBCT, ACT, and DBT), Cognitive Behavior Therapy (CBT), Behavioral Activation, and Exposure and Stress Management therapies.
Dr. Hellmann received her doctoral training in Clinical Psychology from William James College (formerly Massachusetts School of Professional Psychology), Newton, MA, which included pre-doctoral internships at Boston University Hospital’s Department of Rehabilitation Psychology and Metropolitan State Hospital, Waltham, MA. Prior to her doctoral training, Dr. Hellmann received a Master’s Degree in Expressive Arts Therapies from Lesley University, Cambridge, MA. Her undergraduate degree (B.A.) was received from Bennington College, Bennington, VT, where she majored in Art (Photography) and pursued her interests in cultural anthropology as well as modern dance.
