Dr. Slaten uses his knowledge of life cycle issues to inform his understanding of the problems that bring children, adults, seniors, couples and families to psychotherapy. He uses a variety of modalities to help clients build skills to address the emotional, behavioral and interpersonal challenges they face to improve their lives and well being. He draws from his experience in a range of programs and settings including inpatient and day treatment, adoption, guardianship and care management for elders, court mandated seminars and services for families going through divorce, and providing psychological services in a medical setting for an HMO. Dr. Slaten specializes in the treatment of anxiety disorders, depression, trauma and stressor-related disorders. He also treats individuals and families coping with substance abuse, addiction and major mental illness.
Dr. Slaten received his PhD in Clinical Psychology at University of Houston, and completed a pre-doctoral internship in Child and Family Psychology at South Shore Mental Health Center. He continued his training in Family Therapy with externships at The Institute at Newton with David Treadway and at the Cambridge Family Institute. He has done extensive training in trauma-informed therapies. Before coming to PCA in 2014, Dr. Slaten was Executive Director of Jewish Family Service of Worcester for 14 years.
